Jobs for estheticians are expected to grow by 34% in the next few years.* There is still a large demand out there for the services of estheticians, and it will continue to grow as people focus on anti-aging skin treatments and medical services. While everyday clients may be cutting back, there are still people out there who will need and want the services of an esthetician on a regular basis. There are many opportunities for increasing your client base and helping your esthetics career grow.
Providing clients with facials and other services is only part of your job. As an esthetician you will give valuable advice to your clients, helping them choose a skincare regimen that will work in their everyday lives. You will be to market and sell products for your clients to use at home. If your clients trust you and feel that you are a knowledgeable professional, they will take your advice and purchase these products. By providing clients with specific beauty products that they love, you will ensure that they become return customers when they need more supplies.
Important events in people’s lives will also provide you with an opportunity for more clients. Brides will always be looking for facials before their wedding and makeup application for their big day. Bridesmaids and mothers could also get involved, meaning each bride could bring in several clients. High school prom season could also prove to be a great opportunity for getting more clients. Girls want to pamper themselves, and you will be providing one of the services they are looking for.
But don’t wait around for these customers to come to you. You’ll also need to work hard at marketing yourself. Take charge and actively engage in the community. Donate gift certificates for your services to local charities that are holding auctions or raffles. Post flyers in areas around town where potential clients could see them. If you are always prepared with business cards in your wallet you will be able to advertise to potential clients whenever you may meet them.
Another creative way to advertise your services is by partnering with a local hairstylist or other beauty service provider. If you aren’t working in a place that offers these services already, partnering with someone else in the industry can help you both. Trade business cards and send referrals to each other’s clients. You could even provide each other with free services as a reward for any new clients you may get. Networking with other beauty professionals is always helpful and could lead to more opportunities down the road.
Of course, to keep yourself marketable in any economy you’ll need to stay up to date with your training and education. Remember to take advanced training classes in areas you are interested in. By always offering new products and services you’ll stay ahead of your competition. You may even consider combining your esthetics training with other health and beauty related education. Massage therapy and esthetics create a great combination of skills, and can help make you more marketable as you build your clientele. Federico Beauty Institute is currently working towards offering a massage therapy program as well as advanced training classes.
