Federico Beauty Institute Brings Together Students and Salons at Symposium Event

Federico Beauty Institute works hard to provide students with the opportunity to meet professional stylists and attend networking events. Federico believes that students should learn not only in the classroom, but from those who are working in the industry every day. On November 5, 2009, Federico held a Salon Symposium event, featuring some of Sacramento’s top beauty professionals.

The Salon Symposium event included stylists from Salon B, Rowena and Takashi, and AJF Salon. Each of these salons presented live demonstrations for students. Students also had a chance to ask questions about the styling techniques, interact with the stylists, and find out details about each salon. This type of networking event is extremely valuable and allows students to connect with future employers in a casual, informative environment.

The first demonstration of the evening was presented by Rowena, from Rowena and Takashi. She presented a show piece from the BIA International Hair and Fashion Expo on a model from the salon. Rowena’s demonstration also focused on the Vidal Sassoon approach to hair; she is a former Vidal Sassoon instructor.

A second demonstration from Rowena and Takashi was done by Beela Shaikh. Beela is the salon’s makeup director, and a graduate of Federico Beauty Institute. She demonstrated runway and high fashion makeup on a second salon model.

“It’s always exciting for students to see a Federico graduate who has become successful in the beauty industry. Having Beela here really emphasized the great things a student can do with an education from Federico,” said Jeremy Federico, the school’s president.

The second demonstration of the evening was presented by the staff of Salon B. Owner Kathleen Clark, and stylist Avery, gave a presentation about the salon from the perspective of a potential employee. They outlined the way the salon is run, including the payment structure. This information was valuable for students who are close to graduation and will soon be looking for employment. Avery then chose Federico student Jen Steffens from the audience and demonstrated hair cutting techniques on her.

AJF Salon ended the evening with a grand finale presentation that involved several Federico students. Stylist Caitlyn gave a detailed demonstration about round brushing. She explained the many techniques and things you can do with round brushing. The demonstration showed the audience how to create sexy, loose curls with only a round brush and a hair dryer. During the demonstration students were allowed up on stage to participate and try the methods Caitlyn had shown.

Federico Beauty Institute is constantly looking for ways to connect students with talented beauty professionals. The latest initiative, Federico’s Salon Network, launched in conjunction with the Salon Symposium event.
